Description | The Cabot Tower, Bristol, England. The 105 foot high (32 metre) Cabot Tower on Brandon Hill is in the city centre of Bristol, England. The tower was opened in 1898 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of explorer John Cabot’s voyage to America in 1497. The tower was built from red sandstone and cream Bath stone. The roman numerals CCCC(400) are engraved on the four sides. The winged figure on top represents Commerce. The tower is free admission. The view includes the leisure and housing complex being built at Canons Marsh (where At-Bristol is situated), the SS Great Britain ship, the Council House and Cathedral, the impressive University Tower and just a glimpse of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. |
