Скорее всего, тело перед погребением было забальзамировано, но от сырости мумия разрушилась. Останки принадлежали крупному человеку мощного телосложения. На скелете обнаружены патологические изменения в локтевом, коленном суставах и на указательном пальце. На черепе сохранились остатки волос, усов, борода и правая бровь. Волосы были рыжего цвета с проседью. Это соответтсвует свидетельствам современников, согласно которым он был рыжебород, высок ростом, чрезвычайно силен и хром на правую ногу с сухой правой рукой после ранения.
